SMM series Stereotaxic Micromanipulator

Robust stereotaxic micromanipulator with precision three-axes.

SMM-100

The SMM-100 is equipped with the XYZ-axes control knobs.

The Y-axis is installed as a standard specification, which is ready for using with the Bregma - Lamda reference on Mice/Rats experiment. Angle adjustment becomes a frequently used technique nowadays to reach target without interference by blood vessels, for instance, the setting can be switched either AP or ML direction.

The robust mechanism allows the micromanipulator in a tilted angle to be smoothly controlled, even with a heavy optional unit installed such as motorized one-axis micromanipulator (DM system).

The Y-axis knob for AP direction on brain atlas is equipped as ready-made.

The SM-15R/L Stereotaxic micromanipulator requires the additional installation of Y-axis unit named as the SM-15M Substage. The SMM-100 is equipped with Y-axis as ready-made. Consequently, the fine adjustment between Bregma and Lamda is precisely achieved for a small size of brain such as Mice and Rats.

The resolution of those manipulators all axes are simply unified by the same specification as 1mm per one rotation (which minimum graduation is 0.01mm).

The direction of angle switchable according to your applications.

The angle of SMM-100 can be changed in AP direction as its default setting. Operating a switching procedure, the setting can be changed from AP to ML direction.

By choosing the angle direction according to your applications, it allows the SMM-100 to cover as many usages as possible.

Set-up examples of the SMM-100.

The micromanipulator is suitable for many usages not only the experiment of injection, but also electrophysiological recording. Even the upper body is tilted in angle, the manipulation is stable with a smoothness. The robust SMM-100 is recommendable to use with IMS-20 Stereotaxic micromanipulator or DM system One-axis motorized micromanipulator. Furthermore, unique approach is possible for the study of whisker or somato-sensory cortex (barrel).

SMM Series

The product line has the different models such as the SMM-200 that the X/Z axis unit can be tilted in the direction of AP and ML simultaneously. By adjusting the dual angles freely, a desired angle to target becomes possible.

The SMM-100B and SMM-200B is featured without the installation of Y-axis unit. Those models are recommendable when the Y-axis unit is NOT necessary. Especially, electrodes for multi-recording experiment need to be close each other.

TAKANOME

Once having been set, the innovative fan-shaped driver never fails to return to where the pipette tip is supposed to be. The newly installed knob allows a pipette to move along its axis by using traditional and smooth oil hydraulic joystick. This manipulator will spare the laborious work of a pipette alignment with the optical axis, providing more time for objective operation.

Easy attachment of a pipette

The injection holder is provided with an anchor (special clasp) that fits in the driver body, which enables a distance from a pipette tip to the anchor to be in a length. This function can be used for memorizing a regular position so that time for a pipette exchange will reduce and repeated pipette location is precise and stable.

* Design tolerance for attachment of a pipette is 10mm. Pipette location can be corrected within the tolerance so that it can be attached as usual manner.

The pipette tip is designed for staying at the optical axis against any angles. So angle adjustment is hard to miss the tip in the field of view.

Simple and reliable motion from Home to Working position

50mm retracting margin enables easy exchange of a pipette. Breakage of pipettes is greatly reduced during the replacement.

NEW Concept for mouse chronic experiments:

We have developed a NEW concept for stereotaxic instrument for mice. It can be used for chronic experiments and/or under the microscope.

Chamber Frame for Mice

"Chamber Frame for SR-9M-HT" is a disposable item. Five pieces of chamber frames are included as an accessory to the SR-9M-HT. A 10-piece pack of chamber frames is sold separately as Model "CF-10".



How to use:

The most striking feature of the SR-9M-HT is the "chamber frame", which can be bonded to the head of a mouse after conventional three-point fixation (mouth, nose and ears). After bonding onto the head of a mouse, the "chamber frame" is all that is needed to fix the mouse in place.

The flexible design finds wide applicability:

Chronic experiment:
Fixed on SR-9M-HT ⇔ Free
It enables repeated experiments.
Visual and Olfactory experiment:
With the mouth/nose piece removed, it provides open space in front, enabling visual and olfactory experiments.
Behavioural experiment:
With only a chamber frame fixed on the head (thus free to move), it permits observation of its behaviour.
Auditory experiment:
With ear bars and auxiliary ear bars removed, it permits auditory experiments.

Narishige has unveiled a new injector that is easy for even a beginner to use.

A Change from Hydraulic Control to Pneumatic
For example, catching and releasing of a micro-object in liquid by charge and discharge of air pressure can be controlled much easily, compared to using an oil-hydraulic-injector model.
Oil and Maintenance Free
There is no need to fill oil into this injector. Install the capillary, and it is ready to use. The air pressure can be controlled with the same reaction just like using an oil hydraulic injector.
Smooth Pneumatic Control
This pneumatic injector was designed to have smooth control. It is designed to be the same quality that Narishige is known for. You will be surprised when you know how smooth the pneumatic control is.

Three Simple Steps!

It usually takes many steps to set a capillary on the microscope, however this new injector requires only three steps.

Install your capillary

* Unlike an oil hydraulic injector, you don't need to adjust the oil level or check for air bubbles.

Angle Adjustment of Nose Fixing Metal As usual, when the knob is rotated, the nose fixing metal adjusts the angle in the vertical direction, which makes it possible to fix the animal's upper jaw.
Angle Adjustment of Nose Fixing Metal Different from the previous one, this prototype has a small knob on the side. Loosening the knob to pull out the whole part of the nose fixing metal in an upward direction provides sufficient space that makes it easier to hook the animal's teeth.
